Amok Time: because the world needed Pon Farr.
But on a more serious note, this scene is so amazing in so many ways. Spock all heartbroken and shocked over having essentially killed his Captain, whom he cares for and in a haze that for better or worse allows him no memory of the act itself (for a Vulcan to lose that much self-control is considered the worst possible state), logically deals with the handing over of the ship and other necessary details. And in the meanwhile Bones and Chapel and just smiling at him as if to say, “you adorable Vulcan, so in love, relax we saved the day”. I can’t even imagine the emotions that run through Spock’s mind, relief and joy at not having killed a man- and that too, one for whom you have such a complicated and deep relationship with- but the effects are clearly visible. He smiles and twirls and grabs Kirk and calls him “Jim”, things you never see Spock do, and then he brushes it all off like it’s just another day on the Enterprise.
One of the best scenes and moments of TOS by far. I’m done with the fangirling for now.
